RefTracker Tools and Text
Bringing It All Together With RefTracker
Reference librarians use many different tools, pieces of text, and workflows, in answering questions from their clients. RefTracker brings all these pieces of the answering process together in one screen, making them easier to find and faster to use, and making the whole answering function a more satisfying experience for library staff.
In one screen the RefTracker answering function brings together access to all of the information about the question, a process for answering the question, an integrated process for recording how the answer was obtained, a history of the correspondence entered into in regard to the question, QuickSearch for accessing sources of information, QuickText for access to standard text with just a few clicks, and integrated workflows for simplifying associated correspondence with the client and third parties.
QuickSearch
Provides easy access to the web based information sources and tools that you use every day to answer questions. The RefTracker knowledge base, your library catalogue, Google and any other search engines, multi-search engines, online databases, your document delivery service, your web pages, your citation tool, and any other web accessible resources you wish to specify, can all be accessed from this central point on every RefTracker page. An unsuccessful search of the RefTracker knowledge base can be quickly turned into a search of, say, Google, or online information databases without even having to re-enter the search string.
QuickText
Inserts library defined text in your answer or answer related correspondence with just a couple of double clicks. By defining all of your library's commonly used answers, phrases, and forms into QuickText your staff no longer need to go in search of forms or retype long pieces of text - they are all readily available with each RefTracker workflow.
Workflows
Provide fully integrated library adjustable tools for such things as obtaining clarifications from the client, sending copyright declarations, asking others for assistance in answering the question, and even asking a third party to take over the provision of a response to a client. RefTracker even has workflows for recording the progress of ILL requests - you can make an ILL request directly from RefTracker. If your library cannot justify the cost of an ILL management system, RefTracker's ILL monitoring capabilities will be another reason for you to invest in RefTracker.
So, not only does RefTracker facilitate easy transfer of information about a question between staff with different skills or availability, but all these staff have access to all of the information about a question so that work is not duplicated, and they all have single screen access to all the tools, text and workflows they need to answer the question with a new level of efficiency and effectiveness.
