Simplifying item requests by automatically adding item details
Did you know that RefTracker forms can be set up to automatically include details of the item that your end user is viewing in your catalogue or other information source?
This can make requesting copies of the item, or requesting further information about it, easy for your end users. It will also provide your staff with more accurate information about exactly what the end user needs.
Any web-based system that makes information about the items being viewed, available as web page variables (many catalogue systems do this) can be used with RefTracker URL parameters to automatically insert item data.
And its even easier if your information source is OpenURL compliant, as RefTracker is OpenURL compliant. Other OpenURL compliant products include PRIMO/SFX/Summon, some Ebsco products, some Ovid products, and many more.
Would you like to have item information automatically inserted into any of your forms? Would you like to insert a RefTracker request form into one of your catalogues or information sources? Talk to your Altarama representative for help with how this can be done!
Take a look at this example of how one customer has used this feature to allow items in their Open URL compliant Summon product, to be requested.

An example using Summon![]() Here are the results of that search. When you click the entry you are interested in, you get an option to request the item: ![]() The “Request” button is a link to RefTracker that uses an OpenURL function provided by Summon (and RefTracker’s OpenURL compliance) to pass details of the item being viewed into the RefTracker form that displays when the Request button is clicked. Super easy for the user, and no mistakes in providing the item information! ![]() |
Many thanks to Lynn and Ilana at Western Health in Melbourne for allowing us to share their Summon integrated form that automatically brings in the details of the requested item. |
